Wells and Mendip Museum gardens
We are currently processing soil samples from excavations at Wells and Mendip Museum gardens carried out in the 1990’s, which uncovered a significant pottery assemblage dating from the 1660’s to around 1800.
The soil samples were taken primarily for the retrieval of parasites and other archaeo botanical material to add to the overall picture of habitation and use of the site. The flots examined so far have produced charcoal, charred plant remains, mollusc shells, newt vertebrae and a pupae case.
